Whether you are,

We are all a community of people
Getting along doesn't come easy
I don't think we all give equal effort
I ask you the gays, hang in there and wait
I ask you the straights, please quit with the unjust hate
I ask the confused, you don't have to be just straight
I ask the men, don't be sexist
I ask the women, don't play mind games
I ask the others, abide by both
Our Sex doesn't identify us
Our Orientation isn't the only thing we are
All of us, no matter which group you're in...
We are all people
We all deserve the same treatment
If you show unrighteous hate, plan to receive such disgrace
All we ask from our fellow LGBT is to please follow the same
Straights, you non queers just listen a little please
We don't expect total acceptance, just a bit of respect
Please, don't take the option of marriage away?
Give us a chance to prove you wrong
My fellow people, please think twice before you say fag
My fellow people, please think twice before you say dyke
Remember everything we stand for
Let us be the people who create a gay/straight alliance
Let us be the generation who doesn't have any sexism
Let us be the people who also work on racism

Does It Matter?
Does It Matter?
My father asked if I am gay
I asked Does it matter?
He said No not really
I said Yes.
He said get out of my life
I guess it mattered.
My boss asked if I am gay
I asked Does it matter?
He said No not really
I told him Yes.
He said you're fired faggot
I guess it mattered.
My friend asked if I am gay
I said Does it matter?
He said No not really
I told him Yes.
He said Don't call me your friend
I guess it mattered
My lover asked Do you love me?
I asked Does it matter?
He said Yes.
I told him I love you
He said Let me hold you in my arms
For the first time in my life something matters.

I Said It
The words flew out,
after years of denial,
repression and prayer.
A warm chill consumed my person,
as much as a contradiction as I feel.
I gasped at what I had done.
Why did I do it?
Why did I tell HIM??
Why am I even asking these questions?
For the first time in years,
I feel good.
Really good!
I want to shout it from the top of this little town
and yet I feel more repressed than ever.
I realize the consequences of my actions,
of my words.
"I'm gay".

CELEBRATION of GAY PRIDE
CELEBRATION of GAY PRIDE - An Older Gay Man's Perspective
Straight people keep asking, "Why do 'you' people need GAY PRIDE when there is no need for STRAIGHT PRIDE?" This is my answer:
Straight people do not need to be proud of being straight, because they do not need to overcome and survive vilification, hatred, bigotry, discrimination and suppression, for being straight. Sexual Minorities deserve great pride and respect for overcoming all of that, and more.I call this a "Celebration of Gay Pride" because it is a celebration of my journey to self-acceptance and pride-of-self. I was 13, an Altar Boy wanting to be a Priest, when our

I like the idea you had going, and it's true. We need to set aside difference whatever they may be, accept them, and be a community with love and acceptance. There were a few things that really don't seem to work... I want to point out these two stanzas first:
"I ask you the gays, don't up it in their face.
I ask you the straights, please quit with your unjust hate.
I ask the confused, don't come out until you are sure.
I ask the men, don't be sexist.
I ask the women, please be reasonable?
I ask the others, only tell those who need to know"
I understand this may not be the intention, however it does prove a point.
1.1 > gays: sort of comes off as they are the only ones to do such.
1.2 > straight: kind of as they are the only ones who are spiteful of other sexs (I know straights who are against transexuals)
1.3 > uncertain: you say, don't come out until you're sure. I know lesbians that have gotten married had children THEN realized they were straight. Or a gay guy fall in love with a girl... I don't think it's a bad thing for unsure people to "come out" because if they don't they may be 'confused' for ever.
2.1 > men.sexist - women are just as sexist. what gender do you expect to fix your car? and same thing, do the dishes?
2.2 > women.unreasonable - though women do tend to be a bit more emotional than guys, guys can be more unreasonable in stubbornness, or other ways... even in the dramatic reasonably.
2.3 > others - this one, I don't really get, but really, if you're going to tell the world some things, really, we all don't need to know it, everyone has something they probably should've kept to themselves.
The point this proves isn't really relevant, but no matter what people will always have a slight ignorance in them. It's not that they are bad people, just the way the brain works.
I think, had you just gone with a few judgmental, prejudice and such things, asking everyone not to be it, it would've continued your poem a lot better.
The one line that grabbed me, a lot was "we are all people.", I know it's simple, but when you pulled everything, asking people not to be so harsh and crude to each other, it seemed to be in the perfect spot.
Again, like I said, this is a wonderful message for a poem, and it really does convey an array of things that people push and believe against one another. Nice job. I hope that didn't come off to harsh, because it really is a great message. Good luck and keep up the progress (=
